A study employing both quantitative and qualitative approaches, was conducted in 2020-2021, with a primary quantitative focus and a supplementary qualitative component. In the quantitative phase, a quasi-experimental Solomon four-group design study was conducted on 117 second-year nursing students at Shiraz University of Medical Sciences in Shiraz, Iran. Qualitative descriptive research, guided by a phenomenological approach. Data were collected from nine undergraduate students at Universidad del Quindio (Colombia) in 2022-2023. The students, aged 18 and with moderate motor functional diversity (Barthel index scores 20-40), participated in in-depth face-to-face interviews during scheduled class times. Through the lens of theoretical saturation, the participant count was established.
The interviews, when analyzed descriptively, revealed seven key categories: 1) support; 2) affection; 3) life project; 4) personal growth; 5) spirituality; 6) autonomy; and 7) education. Their combined observations underscore significant aspects of student accommodation to university life, and how social bonds play a role in building resilience.
