A multifaceted approach, including bibliometric analysis, pharmacokinetic characterization, target prediction, and network development, is presently employed to first identify PCa-related herbal remedies and their corresponding potential candidate compounds and targets. Viruses are a characteristic feature of the healthy upper airways in children, and can also play a role in cases of pediatric community-acquired pneumonia (CAP). By comparing children diagnosed with community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) to hospital control groups, we gauged the contribution of respiratory viruses and bacteria.
The 11-year study enrolled 715 children under 16 years old, who were radiologically confirmed to have CAP. Using a retrospective study design, a Spanish national reference center for epidermolysis bullosa (EB) analyzed bloodstream infections (BSI) in children aged 0 to 18, from data collected between 2015 and 2020.
From a cohort of 126 children affected by epidermolysis bullosa (EB), 15 patients experienced a total of 37 bloodstream infections (BSIs). This comprised 14 cases of recessive dystrophic epidermolysis bullosa and 1 case of junctional epidermolysis bullosa. In terms of frequency, Pseudomonas aeruginosa (n=12) and Staphylococcus aureus (n=11) represented the dominant microorganisms. Out of five Pseudomonas aeruginosa isolates, 42% demonstrated ceftazidime resistance. Notably, 33% of these ceftazidime-resistant isolates also displayed resistance to both meropenem and quinolones. S. aureus strains showed a resistance profile, with four (36%) displaying resistance to methicillin and three (27%) being clindamycin-resistant. Skin cultures were performed in the two months before 25 (68%) BSI episodes were observed. The most frequently isolated bacteria were P. aeruginosa (15 counts) and S. aureus (11 counts). Smear and blood cultures yielded the same microorganism in 13 cases (52%), mirroring the same antimicrobial resistance pattern in 9 of the isolates. Of the total patients monitored, 12 (10%) experienced death during follow-up. This included 9 patients with RDEB and 3 patients with JEB. One patient succumbed to BSI as the cause of death. In individuals diagnosed with severe RDEB, a prior history of BSI was linked to a significantly elevated mortality rate (Odds Ratio 61, 95% Confidence Interval 133-2783, P = 0.00197).
